For most visa applications, spouses, registered partners, and children under 18 are typically included. However, if this doesn't apply, there are three scenarios to consider:
Family Member of an EU National: This scenario applies to family members of EU nationals (including Spanish nationals). Requirements include demonstrating financial stability, access to healthcare, and providing documents to prove the relationship. Importantly, the family member of the EU citizen must be legally in Spain and not over their Schengen day allowance at the time of application.
Arraigo Familiar: In this case, the qualifying family member holds Spanish nationality. While the usual documentation is required, there are two significant differences. There's no need to demonstrate a qualifying income or savings, and the family member can stay in Spain beyond their Schengen day allowance.
Reagrupación Familiar (Family Reunification): This option is for family members of non-EU citizens. It's a more stringent process as the qualifying person must have legally resided in Spain for at least a year and have the right to stay for another year. Proof of financial stability, access to healthcare, suitable housing, and evidence of the family relationship are required.
